ABOUT HIM

The USAAF Colonel, son, brother, father and husband James Linn Travis was born on June 26, 1911 in Seattle, Washington to John Linn Travis and Myrtle Chapman Hunt, and as the younger brother of John 'Jack' Hunt.

SERVICE

His military life started around the year of 1934, where he went on vessel to Shanghai, China at the age of 22. Arriving back from China in Texas, he enlisted in the Army on June 23, 1934. James then attended Primary Flying School in 1935 (possibly in March Field - CA) where he practiced many attack courses, and then graduated Advanced Flying School on June 22, 1935 at Kelly Field, Texas.

Description and burial

Records reveal Colonel James L. Travis' death on April 5, 1947, caused by an aircraft accident with another crewmember and two press informants.

Connections and family

Colonel met (or reencountered) Ms. Rebecca Smoot Marriott, from Salt Lake City - Utah, whom he married in 12 September, 1945. They moved together to Los Angeles, California in 1946.
